Responsible purchasing practices

Acting responsibly is an essential part of our way of doing business. We understand that we cannot solve all our global challenges alone, but we want to contribute towards positive developments.

For us it makes good sense to work with our suppliers to improve working conditions, social conditions and environmental issues. This is why we are a member of a number of alliances to secure the value chain from producer to consumer.

We are part of different alliances because, as a global company, we believe that we can  contribute to improve working conditions in other parts of the world by maintaining our presence  and driving improvements – rather than turning the blind or choose not to be present.mfori BSCI

amfori BSCI

Since 2006, we have been a member of amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative). This initiative helps retailers, importers and brands to improve working conditions in factories and production sites throughout the world. This cooperation means that suppliers and production sites are closely monitored, but also that we strengthen our commitment and optimise our internal processes.

amfori BEPI

We are also part of the amfori BEPI (Business Environmental Performance Initiative). This initiative helps retailers, importers, brands and producers driving environmental improvements related to, among other things, energy use, GHG emissions, chemical use, the use of water and other environmental and climate related issues. This cooperation means that production sites are closely monitored.

The Danish Ethical Trading Initiative

DETI cooperates with companies, the public sector, organisations, NGOs and trade unions in Denmark with the goal of promoting international trade that respects human rights and labour rights. The initiative's goal is to contribute to sustainable development in developing countries as well as emerging economies by strengthening the members' efforts in relation to ethical trading.

The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh

Salling Group is also a member of the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, which was established in 2013. Its purpose is to secure and improve the conditions of more than 1,600 factories in relation to building construction, cabling and fire safety. Other participants in the agreement include major international trade unions, brands and public agencies. The factories in Bangladesh that Salling Group buys from are all covered by the accord.

Responsibility training

Responsibility is a focus area for Salling Group. This is why it is important for us that all buyers participate in the mandatory training that addresses the Group's CSR strategy, human rights, product risks and opportunities, as well as responsible procurement practices. The goal is to increase the awareness of both the negative and positive consequences that may occur as a result of their decisions. For example, on the one hand, a design change late in the process may lead to overtime work in production; on the other hand, responsible procurement can contribute to recyclable or less packaging.
